Think of it as a way to let yourself have a breather. We know that we have to dress nicely and professionally whenever we go to school or work, however, isn’t that tiring to do all the time? To always dress in tight yet nice-looking clothes, clothes that are very uncomfortable to wear yet you have to anyway because it makes you look smart and so on. It puts a strain on your own movements, which makes the whole day exhausting.
It doesn’t hurt to dress down at least once a week. Some companies allow you to dress less formally once every week. Most of the time, the purpose for that is because they want to make the employees relax by allowing them wear anything they want and it’s usually put on Fridays. Others would like to see this as an opportunity to finally wash their uniforms and formal clothes after 4 straight days of wearing them.
What’s the ideal dressed-down clothes, though?
For me, it’s always going to be the standard plain t-shirt and jeans, coupled with slippers or maybe sandals. As a girl, this is such a stark difference to the usual dresses I have to wear every day to work. The skirts or the slacks are going to be the death of me. Luckily, I’m working at a company that doesn’t care for attire as long as we show up to work. So half of the week, I just wear lose t-shirts and shorts, as well as my rubber slippers. I would look like I was going out to buy groceries instead of working at my 8-hour job. It makes me seem less professional but comfort is big for me so I get to work efficiently when I’m comfortably. Unlike other companies I used to work in.
Then there’s also the standard Casual Friday clothes that company policies need to adhere to. Those are for companies that really take themselves too seriously. These types of companies would be the type that get you to meet clients and customers majority of the time, unlike the ones that just focus on online stuff. Companies that are mostly on the SEO side of things are usually the ones who don’t care for attires because the most important thing to bring to work is your brain. Jumpers and skaters skirts are also a nice combination, if you want to get preppy. It’s a look most would see when going to a mall or maybe with a bunch of friends, not something you would see at work. But we are here to dress down in general, not just work. Fashionistas need to take a break, even if dressing up is their passion. We cannot fault that. But it’s nice to relax and take a break once in a while, you know?
